Camelot was King Arthur's fancy castle, and it was where the Knights of the Round Table resided. It was considered to be the seat of power in Britain.
Camelot - Undoomed Warrior

It is unknown if Camelot was metaphorical or if it actually existed, or what its possible location would be.
It is first mentioned in Chrétien de Troyes' poem Lancelot, the Knight of the Cart, where King Arthur's chief court was in Caerleon. Eventually through other French prose romances and literary works like Le Morte itself Camelot beat out Caerleon as Arthur's main residence and court.
Cities in England like Winchester and Celliwig are rumored to be possible locales of Camelot, but the most popular choice is Cadbury Castle in Somerset.
In recent times the term "Camelot" usually refers to JFK's time in office, or to the musical titled "Camelot," which entertains the whole Lancelot/Guinevere/Arthur love triangle.

Thomas Malory created the image of Camelot most familiar to English speakers in his Le Morte d'Arthur; he firmly identifies Camelot with Winchester, an identification that remained popular over the centuries, though it was rejected by Malory's own editor, William Caxton.(1)

CAMELOT

"Far down he gazed
On Camelot, until he made of it
A phantom town of many stillnesses,
Not reared for men to dwell in, or for kings
To reign in, without omens and obscure
Familiars to bring terror to their days"

--this is a quote from Merlin by Edwin Arlington Robinson

Camelot - Undoomed Warrior (2)
The 1967 film of Camelot portays King Arthur (Richard Harris) and Guinevere's (Vanessa Redgrave) wedding and the life of Arthur. It ends when he is killed by his son Mordred ( David Hemming). This follows the plot from Le Morte d' Arthur very closely.
