Igraine comes from the Welsh name Eigyr. Igraine becomes the mother of arthur. Igraine had a number of daughters with her husband ,Gorlois, (Sometimes called hoel.) Sir Uther Pendragon sleeps with her one night conceiving King Arthur, This happened while Uther was under a spell that made him resemble Igraine's husband. After Gorlois was found dead, Igraine decided to marry Uther and found out that king Arthur was Uther's son. Igraine never saw arthur since Merlin gave him away to Sir Ector right after the birth. Lady Igraine may have been an actual person that was written into the Arthurian Legend. Her actual lineage was very strong and has been barely argumented. It is believed that she was the descendent of Joseph of Aremthea.

Igraine was married to the Duke of Cornwall when Uther Pendragon first set his eyes on her. Uther deceives her as the Duke and the consummate the baby, Arthur. This is where the Arthurian Legend begins. (4)

After Arthur was born, Merlin took him away to be trained and would come back when he was needed. During this time King Utherdies. Because she has nothing left, Igraine retires to a nunnery. There she died in a cloister.(6)
