Legend of his childhood
Sir Launcelot was said to have been the son of King Ban of Benwick and Queen Elaine. The story of his chilodhood is that he was abandoned by a lake as an infant. He was then raised by the lady of the lake and eventually became one of the most famed knights of the Round Table(1)
Nephew of King Bors and cousin to Sir Bors and Sir Lionel, Sir Launcelot is known as one of the most famous of the knights of the round table. He bore a son, Galahad, with Elaine, the daughter of the Fisher King. He is under a spell that leaves him hopelessly in love with queen Guinevere. (2)
His love for Guinevere
His affair with Guinevere and his love for her is one of the most powerful themes woven throughout the work. His devotedness to her, rescuing her twice, and his faithfulness are implicitly expressed. His one failure was when he was tricked by a woman called Elaine, posing as Guinevere, to sleep with her. (4)
