Very little is known about Sir Thomas Malory, whose identity is disputed. He was an educated man, though not a professional writer, who is known for his book Le Morte d'Arthur. Malory lived in Medieval England between the years 1420 and 1471. He had a reputation of violence and was actually in prison when he finished his literary masterpiece. (1)

Sir Thomas Malory was marries to Elizabeth Walsh, and together they had a son, Robert. Until 1449, Thomas Malory appeared to be an upstanding citizen. In 1449, however, he underwent a drastic change. He was accused of the rape of Joan Smith, and stealing goods and livestock. He was never charged with anything.(3)
