This is a picture of The Franklin. (1)

The Franklin does not feel he fits in with the distinguished pilgrims and feels he must justify his presence. He introduces as an uneducated and ignorant man. He never studied rhetoric and asks that they excuse his vulgar speech that seems to be plain and boring. Even though he is uneducated he feels that the pilgrims will still enjoy his tale and says he will tell it if they wish. (2)
