The Path to Becoming a KnightThis is a featured page

When a knight's son turned 6 or 7 years old, he was sent to another nearby castle and became a page. A page helped the castle's lord dress, put on armor, and do other menial tasks. In his free time, a page played training games with the other pages, such as fighting with wooden swords. From the castle's lord and lady he learned manners and other skills.
If the page performed his duties well enough, he became a squire at the age of fourteen. As a squire, he would serve a knight by bringing him weapons, armor, and horses. The knight in turned trained the squire in the arts of war. Eventually, if the squire completed his training he would be dubbed a knight. The squire's lord would knight him by slapping him with the flat of the sword and say "I dub thee Sir Knight". The new knight was given his own sword, lance, and spurs. He then was free to set forth on quests. (1)
